Breast Augmentation Surgery: What to Expect

If you want to know what to expect with breast augmentation surgery it would help to first discuss with your plastic surgeon any questions you may have. It is very important that you go with a board certified plastic surgeon when undergoing any type of cosmetic surgery.

A good plastic surgeon will provide you with enough information that you will feel comfortable about the decision you make concerning having breast augmentation surgery done. Here are some of the questions that you might want to have ready to discuss with your surgeon:

• How long has the plastic surgeon been board certified?
• How many years has the plastic surgeon been performing breast augmentation surgery?
• What has been the most common complication experienced by your patients?
• Where do you prefer to place the incisions and the implants?
• Is there a fee for any repairs or fixes that need to be made after the surgery has been performed?
• Is there a fee for any post-operation appointments?

The length of time that breast augmentation surgery usually takes is anywhere from one to three hours to perform. There are various factors that will contribute to how long a surgery takes. Some of those factors include:

• The type of breast surgery technique used
• Placement of the implants
• The patient’s anatomy
• The type of anesthesia used for surgery

This type of cosmetic surgery is done on an outpatient basis. Most patients can return home within a few hours after having the surgery.

You can expect to wear gauze bandages around your breasts along with a tighter bandage to provide support and protection. There will also be some pain, so your surgeon will probably prescribe an anti-inflammatory medication. You may also be put on an antibiotic to prevent infection.
